This structure is on Park St. and is easily visible from the side of the road. I have long wondered what purpose it served. Anyone know?

I am a Real Estate Broker with an office in Mendon. As much as I make my living selling real estate I am dedicated to preserving as much Mendon land as possible and have facilitated the purchase and preservation of over 200 acres and am always working on getting more. I am passionate about preserving Mendons rural character and am opposed to any bylaw changes that would threaten that character. Public water is a threat to any towns future and I will fight its expansion with all my resourses.

I thought it was a holding chamber for deceased folk (while waiting for ground to thaw so they could be buried).
Either that or a root cellar. Isn't there another one on Park Street?
The one on Park St. is an actual burial vault. Mrs Daniels was moved to the Family cemetery and its been vacant since. Root cellars are more underground than these. I don't think these are suficient to preserve vegetables. So ,for me at least, the mystery continues.
